M.I.B. (Men In Bed)
Men In Bed

M.I.B. stands for "Men In Bed", and no, it's not what you think it is. The purpose of the M.I.B. is to "help" young students (always male) who just can't get up in time for class. The idea is these students will be better off if they learn to wake themselves up... although, V6 is always more than happy to "help" the student wake up with their own strange, original daisakusen (grand plan). Since the segment involved waking people up for school, the two members of V6 working on it had to wake up incredibly early in order to get dressed in their black suits and head to the student's house... therefore, Go and Ken never did take part of this segment. (Go was, however, a recipient of the M.I.B. once...) Sakamoto-kun and Nagano-kun probably showed up the most often... Both of them are apparently morning-birds, and Nagano-kun seemed almost TOO amused by the various daisakusen...

The segments always had the same format: First step was for the M.I.B. to meet with the student's mother and set up a hidden camera in the boy's room while he's still sleeping. They would then retreat to their M.I.B. van, and watch to see how the boy intended on waking up. Most of the time, the student would simply whack the alarm off, and then go back to sleep. But some actually ended up sleeping though 10-15 minutes of the most annoying alarms you've ever heard in your life. If the student didn't wake up, which they never did, the M.I.B. SWAT team was sent into the boy's room. They carefully picked up the student, futon or mattress and all, and carried it out to the van. Once, though, they actually couldn't be bothered trying to get the kid out of his 2nd story bedroom... and instead strapped him down and lowered him to the ground by a giant crane. [shaking head]

'No matter how many times I see this, it's still a strange sight!!'At this stage in the segment, so that the student wouldn't be late for school, the M.I.B. would drive to the student's first train station (most students had a daily commute of an 1 to 1-1/2 hours). The SWAT team then carted the sleeping student, still in his bed, to a clear space in front of the train station. You would think that being outside, with people, buses, cars, and trains around would wake you up, but the boys would always continue to sleep straight through it.

Nippon in 2001 DaisakusenAt this point, the M.I.B. would unleash their first daisakusen. Basically, they would just throw something odd into the situation, hoping that the extra added stimulation would wake up the student. Some of these daisakusen included the "Baseball Club Daisakusen" (a baseball team ran circles around the student while shouting fight slogans), the "Chorus Club Daisakusen (a school chorus sang set themselves up and sang right next to the sleeping student), and the "Gamera Daisakusen" (a tiny turtle was dropped onto the sleeping boy's head). One of my favorites, right, is the "Japan in 2001 Daisakusen", where athletes long-jumped over the sleeping student. And yet, no one ever woke up.

Rubber Band Daisakusen The final and most drastic stage of the M.I.B. came at the end, when the M.I.B. drove the student straight to his school. The SWAT team picked a spot where other commuting students were sure to pass, and placed the sleeping boy right in the middle of it all. Somehow, the boy always managed to sleep though this, at which point the M.I.B. was "forced" to pull out their final daisakusen. The one on the left, the "Rubber Band Daisakusen" is a good example, where a giant rubber band was snapped, hitting the sleeping student and waking him up. Other times, they've whacked the kid with a squeaky hammer, popped a giant water balloon over his face, or put him on a spinning platform. My personal favorite was the Hako no Nakami wa Nan Darou na? Daisakusen (The "What's in the Box?" Daisakusen), where they dropped three chicks, and then two chickens on top of a poor sleeping student. I don't know what was the best part: Sakamoto-kun's impromptu "Hako no Nakami wa Nan Darou na?" theme song, or the fact that the student KEPT SLEEPING when three chicks fell on his head. It was toooo strange...

At the very end, the M.I.B. would pop out when the student "wakes himself up" and hand him his school uniform. The boy usually had about one minute to make it to school, but at least he's right there. Another successful mission from the M.I.B. Or something...
