![]() Yoda Mitsuhiro Played by V6's Miyake Ken Mitsuhiro is one of the leaders of the five guys with his best friend, Yoshikuni. He's extremely cool and together, to the point of seeming cold-hearted. Although he's a nice guy, being extremely loyal and helpful to his friends, Mitsuhiro's coldness can be scary. Even his mother starts a bit at Mitsuhiro's coldness, and Mitsuhiro is the only one who seems to truly scary Takagi, the evil senior living alone at the dorm next door. Mitsuhiro is smart, rich, and well-dressed. He's a great tennis player, a lover of classical music, and a defender of privacy. He lives at the dorm, although his mother lives alone at a large mansion nearby. Although this seems mysterious, Mitsuhiro faces some rather extreme personal problems and merely hides his emotions behind the cold facade. Mitsuhiro is an very complex character, as he hides some serious emotional problems, and yet is shockingly well-adjusted, considering. Ken-ken pulls off this character surprisingly well. Although I love Ken-ken dearly, I honestly never thought he'd be such a good actor. What a pleasant surprise! Good job, Ken-ken! *-*-*-*SPOILERS BELOW*-*-*-* Where to start with Mitsuhiro's problems... his only living relative is his mother, the beautiful Yoda Keiko. However, Keiko reveals to all of Mitsuhiro's friends that she's not related to him by blood at all. Mitsuhiro is the son of Keiko's husband and the husband's lover, but since Keiko's father got her husband his stable business job, he felt like he couldn't divorce her. When Mitsuhiro was in elementary school, the lovers committed suicide together, leaving Keiko alone to raise Mitsuhiro. She provides for him financially, but Mitsuhiro keeps track of every single yen to repay her someday. Why is he so concerned about debt? From the age of 13, his new "mom" has been inviting him to her bed. During the series, Yoshikuni becomes Keiko's confidant, much to Mitsuhiro's displeasure (partially out of hatred for his mother; partially because he's worried that his mother may be seducing his friend). Yoshikuni, however, figures out that Keiko doesn't hate Mitsuhiro at all, but after the trauma of losing her beloved husband, she decided that while love is fleeting, hate will live on. If she makes Mitsuhiro hate her, then she won't be forgotten when she's gone. Her plan works a little too well when Mitsuhiro decides to give up all financial support and refuses to return home again. As it turns out, Keiko doesn't have much time left. Mitsuhiro is shocked to discover that his mother has a fatal disease and has only been avoiding the hospital to be with him. After much soul searching (and prodding from Yoshikuni and his mother's lawyer), Mitsuhiro returns home for his mother's final days. The climax of this story in episode #10 is very quiet and reflective as the two slowly drop their defenses against each other: Mitsuhiro's cold politeness and Keiko's brass hatred. They begin to realize that they never did hate each other at all. Really, Mitsuhiro hated his birth mother and Keiko hated her husband for choosing suicide and leaving them behind to pick up the pieces. But they couldn't bring themselves to hate the ones who actually left them and chose to hate each other instead. In the last moments, the two finally drop their defenses, admit that they actually don't hate each other and really do love each other after all. Keiko dies in Mitsuhiro's arms, and Mitsuhiro burns all of his records counting yen. Neverland | TV Index |
