![]() Hishikawa Yoshikuni Played by former Johnny's Jr. leading member/Solo idol Imai Tsubasa Yoshikuni is the young hero of the story. He's the leader of the five boys at the dorm, adored by local high school girls, and dating a beautiful young girl named Tajima Hiroko. He's cool-headed but kind and sympathetic. As the five boys struggle through their problems, it is often Yoshikuni who helps them through in the end. However, he suffers from many personal problems. His parents are on the verge of divorce, and Yoshikuni refuses to speak to his father. He has reoccurring nightmares of a traumatic event when he was a kid, nightmares that reinforce a fear of women and complicate his budding relationship with Hiroko. Along with Takizawa "Takki" Hideaki, Imai Tsubasa was one of the Johnny's Jr. super idols before he and Takki both graduated to start solo careers. Imai-kun gives a strong performance, conveying Yoshikuni's near constant turmoil and kind nature. I do have two complaints about Yoshikuni, however. First of all, the relationship between Yoshikuni and Hiroko is HYSTERICALLY unbelievable. They're fine up until they hug, which consists of them wrapping their arms around each other while their hips are kept at least three feet apart. The uncomfortable hugs make it for me. Secondly, although Yoshikuni's troubles sound horrible at first, by the end of the series it seems fairly weak. Compared to everyone else's problems, and how well they were handling THEIR crappy lives, I started to feel like Yoshikuni needed to start taking some of his own advice and start dealing with his life, too. *-*-*-*SPOILERS BELOW*-*-*-* Nine years ago, when Yoshikuni was a child, he was kidnapped by his father's young lover. She took him deep into the forest and nearly strangled him to death, cutting puncture wounds into his neck with her long nails. Later, the two met with his father in a hotel room. After dressing the wounds on his neck, Yoshikuni's father and the lover had a confrontation, ended with the lover slashing her wrists. At the hospital, Yoshikuni's father explains to him that the entire incident was the lover's fault, as she was sick. Yoshikuni's mother is infuriated with his father, and Yoshikuni likewise places the blame on his father, both for cheating on his mother and for blaming everything on the lover. Eventually, Hiroko helps Yoshikuni overcome his trauma and fear of women, while Yoshikuni's family and friends try to convince him to forgive his father. The turning point comes when the lover hunts down Yoshikuni to talk to him. As it turns out, the lover is now a mother herself, and feels horribly guilty for her past actions. She apologizes profusely to Yoshikuni. Yoshikuni accepts, beginning to finally heal the scars from his past. At the series' end, Yoshikuni's mother files for divorce, and Yoshikuni begins to reconnect with his father again. Neverland | TV Index |
