How
do I install a skin?
First, winamp is required. It is a free program and can be downloaded from their
homepage. After getting the program, you
can download my skins directly to the "skins" folder. You do not need to unzip
them. Pressing ALT+S will open the skin browser. Select the skin you'd like
to display, and it should appear.
How do you make these?
A "skin" is a collection of bitmap files that arrange to form the final product
that you see. For image editing, I primarily use Adobe Photoshop 5.0, and more
recently 6.0. In addition, I use Microsoft Paint for the final editing
and clean-up work. Sometimes simplicity can be a blessing.
As for my source images, I scan almost all of them using my trusty Visioneer
3300. Background photographs (playgrounds, churches, flower bouquets ^_^) tend
to come from free-for-all galleries. Occasionally I get requests that I just
can't fill with the materials I myself own, so I have to borrow from the net.
In these instances, the source is identified.
How did you learn to do this?
There are templates available at Winamp's
homepage. I enjoy learning from example. I have never used an auto-skinning
program, so I'm afraid I can't comment on them. I'm a handmade girl all the
way.
The readme says that there's a "non-functioning equalizer"
included. What is that and how do I use it?
An equalizer is "functioning" when the slider bars are visible and can be moved
to suit your personal sound specifications. Sometimes, for artistic purposes,
skinners may hide these bars to create a larger canvas for image-viewing. All
of my skins have both a functioning and non-functioning equalizer included;
whichever I prefer is the one I make the default. If you want to change to the
other option, open the Zip file (using the unzipping program of your choice).
Retitle the "eqmain2" bitmap to "eqmain" and get rid of the old eqmain file.
This should change the skin to your preference.
May I post your skin on my site?
Please email me first. I simply
would like to know where my skins are going, and a lot of hard work goes into
their creation. However, bandwidth-stealing is not nice, so please don't link
directly to a file on senshigakuen.com. If you'd like to post them, please upload
the file to your own server. Thanks.
Do you accept requests?
Hesitantly and conditionally, maybe. Many skins on the site have been requests
from Minako-chan, so I'll extend that offer to my visitors. I'd prefer to work
with series or artists that I'm familiar with... otherwise, I don't think I
can really give any feeling to the project. But that's an ambiguous answer since
most people won't know what I have and have not seen, so just ask! There are
many series that I feel have adequate representation already, so I'd probably
have to refuse if skins are readily available elsewhere. Ask about something
unloved and I'm more likely to dive right in. And please don't ask for anything
by CLAMP. I feel guilty enough about the skins that I already do have
posted using their art. Sorry, personal decision.
