Onsen ga ii na
The Hot Springs are Great, Aren't They
Sung by: E.M.U.

Version 2.00
Note: E.M.U. never fails to make my day. This song really had no deep plot or underhanded message. It's simply about being tired, going to the hot springs, and then getting overheated. Despite all of that, I really think that it captures the essence of relaxing in the onsen to a T. That's pretty much exactly how I feel every time I've been, too. On a personal recommendation, I prefer the Remix version of the song over the original. The original really seems to capture the country essence of the onsen better, but the Remix version seems to capture the idea of being bored and heading out to the onsen. If that makes any sense.
mou sukoshi nemuritai no sa
sentaku shinakya ikenai kedo
beddo de U-DA U-DA
totemo kimochi ii
onegai sa konna toki
denwa kakenai de
I want to sleep a little bit more
But I have to do my laundry
Idling in bed U-DA U-DA (1)
It feels awfully good
Please, telephone,
Don't ring right now
jitto shite ugokanakute mo
onaka ga naridasu no wa naze da
raamen o tabete
furui zasshi o mitetara
nantonaku tooku ni yukitaku natta
I wonder why even if I lie still and don't move
My stomach still starts growling
I eat ramen
Then look at some old magazines
For some reason or another, I want to go far away
Hey Hey kore kara dekakeyou
Hey Hey shizuka na onsen ni
Hey Hey kossori hairitai na
mayonaka no konyoku
Hey Hey After this, let's go out
Hey Hey To a quiet hot springs
Hey Hey I want to secretly get in
For some midnight mixed bathing
yaritakunai kara yaranai
dekinai koto wa muri ni shinai
soredemo ii desho
betsu ni meiwaku kakenai
warui kedo suki ni sasete moraimasu
I don't want to do it, so I won't
You can't force someone to do something they can't do
But that's okay, right?
I don't want to be an annoyance
Sorry, but, let me do what I want
Hey Hey ashita wa zuruyasumi
Hey Hey kono mama onsen de
Hey Hey nonbiri sugosu no sa
umai mono zanmai
Hey Hey Tomorrow I'm playing hooky
Hey Hey At this hot springs
Hey Hey I'm just going to relax
Absorbed in something great
erasou na kao shiteru hito mo
hadaka ni nareba onaji
aka ni mamireteru kokoro o
nagashiteshimaou awa no you ni
atsui oyu no naka
Even people who look the most distinguished
Are all the same when they're naked
Our hearts that are covered in filth
Let's have them float away, like froth
In hot water
kumotta mado (Hey Hey kore kara dekakeyou)
hoshi ga mieru (Hey Hey shizuka na onsen ni)
kondo kimi to futari (Hey Hey ashita wa zuruyasumi)
hairitai (Hey Hey yukkuri sugosou yo)
souzou shita dake de (Hey Hey kossori konyoku de)
noboseru no sa (Hey Hey hairou)
Hey Hey ashita wa zuruyasumi
Hey Hey kono mama onsen de
Hey Hey nonbiri sugosu no sa
umai mono zanmai
Clouded windows (Hey Hey After this, let's go out)
You can see the stars (Hey Hey To a quiet hot springs)
This time, you and I (Hey Hey Tomorrow I'm playing hooky)
I want to join you (Hey Hey Let's slowly relax together)
But I just imagined it (Hey Hey Secretly mixed bathing)
Caught up in a daydream (Hey Hey Join in) (2)
Hey Hey Tomorrow I'm playing hooky
Hey Hey At this hot springs
Hey Hey I'm just going to relax
Absorbed in something great
(1) Udauda is just kinda what you say when you're going off on long-winded and meaningless talks. I figure here it kinda means that there are so many reasons why just lying in bed are nice, and you can almost imagine the rant on the subject, but to sum it all up, it just feels good.
(2) Noboseru can either refer to daydreaming, or it can refer to getting flushed and dizzy like you would at an onsen. Either way, it basically reflects the idea of drifting off in the hot springs for far too long.
Lyrics belong to Yokoyama Takeshi, taken from the E.M.U. Remix album, COCX-30008 (track 9). Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway. Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be mailed to Mina-P at Minako@senshigakuen.com.
