Gareki no Shoujo
Useless Girls (1)
Sung by: Kawasaki Eriko, Suguwara Sachiko, Nishimura Chinami (Speedy Girls)
Translated by: Mina-P (Email: Minako@senshigakuen.com)
Version 2.00
Note: Yet another song from the hysterical Bannou Bunka Nekomusume TV series (otherwise known as Nukunuku). Although these three seiyuus have real roles in the series, they double as Maho, Miho, and Shiho, the three-member idol group "Speedy Girls." For those who don't know about Japanese pop music, they're an obvious parody of now defunct idol group Speed. Only, Speed was never half as good as the Speedy Girls on Gareki no Shoujo. It really shocked me when I first heard the song that it could end up being one of my favorite songs on the entire CD. Definitely one to check out for yourselves.
oishii koto shika iwanai jidai kara umareta
kireigoto ja mou kokoro ni, nanimo tsutawaranai
We came from the age where we're not told anything but good things
Our hearts aren't even told the whole story
anata ni aeru to iu nara fensu demo koeru yo
kakumei ni nureru sono te de watashi mo yogoshite
If I can meet you, I'll cross over any fence
With that hand drenched in revolution, even I'm soiled
wakatte yo wakatte yo to sakendeiru
anata no tame ni, setsunai hana o ageru
"I understand, I understand," I cry out
For your sake, I give you the painful flower
kizutsuku tabi yasashiku nareru
dakedo wakasa, sonna amakunai yo
makenai de ne gareki no shoujo
zero no naka kara ai mo yume mo sageshitai
Every time you get hurt, you can become kinder
But youth, it isn't kind like that
Don't give up, useless girls
Because inside of nothing, I want to look for love and dreams
machi ni afureteru asobi wa himatsubushi bakari de
okurimono mitsuketai no ni, kopii shikanai yo
The playing that overflows the streets is nothing but wasting time
Although I want to find a gift, they're nothing but copies
ano toki anata ni moratta Kiss no aji yasashiku
yubi de furete omoidashite ima mo aruiteru
The taste of the kiss that I gave you at that time, gently
With trembling fingers I remember, and even now I walk on
kikoeru yo kikoeru yo to sakendeiru
aizu o choudai watashi mo sore de, kawaru
"I hear you, I hear you," I cry out
Please give me a sign, I'll give you one, too, and I'll change
nakanai de ne garaki no kuni de
kata o yosete nemuru nakama ga iru
wasurenai de, otona ni natte mo
konna fuu ni warau ko ga ita koto o
Don't cry, in the useless country
Pull yourself together, you have friends that are still asleep
Don't forget, even when you grow up
That you were smiling like this
kizutsuku tabi yasashiku nareru
dakedo wakasa, sonna amakunai yo
makenai de ne gareki no shoujo
zero no naka kara ai mo yume mo sageshitai
Every time you get hurt, you can become kinder
But youth, it isn't kind like that
Don't give up, useless girls
Because inside of nothing, I want to look for love and dreams
nakanai de ne garaki no kuni de
kata o yosete nemuru nakama ga iru
wasurenai de, otona ni natte mo
konna fuu ni warau ko ga ita koto o
Don't cry, in the useless country
Pull yourself together, you have friends that are still asleep
Don't forget, even when you grow up
That you were smiling like this
(1) There's something about Nukunuku songs that require explanations of the title. Literally, the title means "Rubble Girls," but gareki can also refer to something useless. I just thought that was interesting imagery.
Lyrics belong to Tadano Natsumi, taken from the Bannoubunka Nekomusume Songs-2: My Lovable Families album, KICA-398 (track 4). Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway. Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be mailed to Mina-P at Minako@senshigakuen.com.
