Guava Juice
Performed by: Porno Graffitti

Version 1.00
Note: A special request from my imouto-bun. ^_^ I've wanted to translate this song for a while, for no other reason than my favorite lyricist, Haruichi-san, managed to work the phrase "guava juice" into a song. My mom's from Hawaii, and every time I eat/drink anything guava, I'm reminded of trips to see mom's family when I was a kid. Ahhh, memories! Anyway, the song kinda cuts between odd urban symbolism, including coffee shops, skyscrapers, and buses, to portray one of Porno Graffitti's favorite themes: painful lost love. Does anyone else ever get the idea that the PG guys really really need nice girlfriends? Man...
mayonaka no koohii shoppu amai amai guaba juusu
puraido wa okizari de kimi ni sugaru no mo ii nee
At a late night coffee shop sweet sweet guava juice
Pride deserts you I should just cling on to you, huh
dou ni mo umaku ikisou de ikanai
hitokage mo nai hissori gozen go ji
No matter how sweet I look like I'm going to go, but I don't
There isn't a soul silent, at 5 a.m.
tayorinai baransu de sora made todoku biru
shita no hou kettara gaadoman ga tondekita
With an unreliable balance, a building reaches the sky
From down below the watchman comes tumbling down
kitto are tte yureru n da... zettai
soshite akkenaku mo ne furiotosareta no ga boku
Surely, that's swaying... definitely
And so, all too soon the one thrown off is me
mayonaka no koohii shoppu amai amai guaba juusu
puraido wa okizari de kimi ni sugaru no mo ii nee
At a late night coffee shop sweet sweet guava juice
Pride deserts you I should just cling on to you, huh
ichi ichi basu wa dareka no katte na
kimochi de tomaru dakara saa... noronoro...
One by one, buses stop according to
Someone's selfishness So that's why... slowly...
kitto are tte hayai n da... zettai
soshite kizukanai uchi ni norisugoshita no ga boku
Surely, that's fast... definitely
And so, until I realize that the one who rides too long is me
sumaato ni koi o tanoshindeiru ne
sasayaki mo burafu datte? korya mata yarareta
You're stylishly enjoying your love, huh
Were those murmurs just fun, too? You're doing it to me again
mayonaka no koohii shoppu boku wa nigai shitsuren
"Denwa ja nai bun dake wa sukoshi wa seijitsu desho" datte sa
At a late night coffee shop I've got a bitter love
It's "Only the part not on the phone was a little bit true" (1)
kitto kimi tte junjou o migi te ni
soshite egao ukabete hikigane o hiku n da ne
Surely, you've got naivety in your right hand
And so, with a smile on your lips you pull the trigger
mayonaka no koohii shoppu amai amai guaba juusu
oshaberi na sono hitomi ni namida chira tsukase
At a late night coffee shop sweet sweet guava juice
You make tears flicker in those expressive eyes (2)
mayonaka no koohii shoppu boku wa nigai shitsuren
puraido wa okizari de kimi ni sugaru no mo ii nee
At a late night coffee shop I've got a bitter love
Pride deserts you I should just cling on to you, huh
(1) A short note, but in the original lyrics, "Tel" (printed in English characters) is used instead of "denwa". It still means "phone", basically, but the use of "Tel" is more colloquial and modern.
(2) It was hard to get across the same thought in English, so I'll cheat and put it in a note, instead. ^_^ Basically, this line says that the tears and the eyes are fake. Alas, "crocodile tears" does not have the same ring in English...
Lyrics belong to Haruichi and Sony Music Entertainment, taken from the foo? album, SRCL-5039 (track 2). Not like the words make any sense if you haven't heard the song, anyway. Romanized and translated into English very badly by Mina-P, with desperately needed help, as always, by Mako-chan. Any comments or corrections can be mailed to Mina-P at Minako@senshigakuen.com.
